Hello world!

2009 July 26

Today I am starting my very own blog, which is a little weird since I have never ever even blogged before.  It’s sort of like starting a cooking class when you have never cooked before.  But I have been advised by several friends whose opinions I value that this is a necessity.

As it turns out this is perfect timing for a couple of reasons.   I have been working on this for quite some time, and it is now ready to launch just 3 days before the YTB Convention.  This will be the perfect way to keep you updated with all the announcements and pictures.   That is good timing #1.  Good timing #2 is the fact that I just recently saw the movie “Julie and Julia” which happens to be about blogging.  So now I have my inspiration.

For those of you that don’t know me, let me start at least somewhere close to the beginning. This blog will be mostly about the business of network marketing and travel, quite a combination. More specifically about my journey with YTB. What I anticipate you can get from reading this blog is information to help you be a better networker, whether you are in YTB or another company.  Not that I know all the answers,  I absolutely do not, but we will find these answers together.  I have already learned a lot in my three years with YTB and I want to share this with you.  You will also hopefully learn about the travel business.  I do have some experience here, but again the world is a rapidly changing place and we are going to experience this together.

I started in the travel business a little over 24 years ago as a traditional travel agent. My sister Vicki brought me on as an outside sales rep with an agency in downtown Louisville Ky. She eventually purchased t her own agency and I managed a branch that she opened in Shepherdsville Ky. Several years later I bought this agency from her and went on to own two other locations in downtown Louisville.   The travel industry is quite fun but  we experienced lots of changes from commission cuts to Gulf Wars and eventually the Internet put us out of business.

In the process of closing I contacted my remaining loyal clients to thank them for their patronage and advise them of our plans to close.   One of my clients later called to say that they had received my letter and where looking for a new agency when they were told about a company called YTB.  They asked me for my opinion.  I had no knowledge of this company, but after a great deal of research, determined that it was not only a good idea for them, but a good idea for me as well.  I joined forces with YTB in June of 2006 and that is how this journey began.

The important thing I want you to know is that I will do my best to keep you informed.  Let me know what you need and want to know more about.  In the upcoming days of course the topic will be all about the YTB National Convention.   So check the blog daily to hear about all the announcements and get some firsthand info…. Not to mention all the great photos I will be posting.
