<p>You may not realize it, but Facebook only displays some of the stories generated by your friends — if it displayed everything, there’s a good chance you’d be overwhelmed. Facebook is always trying to make sure their sites and apps are publishing stories that make the cut.</p>
<p>You may or may not have noticed but you have two setting at the top of the wall.  TOP NEWS &#8211; MOST RECENT</p>
<p>If a friend has a high &#8220;edgerank&#8221;  they will show in TOP NEWS.  If they don&#8217;t have a high &#8220;edgerank&#8221;  they may <strong>not</strong> even show in MOST RECENT.</p>
<p>So what is &#8220;EdgeRank&#8221;  you may ask?  Well I could not even find a &#8220;Wiki&#8221; on EdgeRank.  Pretty crazy.</p>
<p>So let me give it a shot!   &#8220;Edgerank&#8221; is like a report card on Facebook.  That&#8217;s what it is to me anyway.  If you are using Facebook for business you better know if you are passing or flunking.  Because if you are flunking it is really a big waste of time.</p>
<p>Everything you post of Facebook is considered an &#8220;object&#8221;.   Comments, photos, videos, Links are all &#8220;objects&#8221; to Facebook and every &#8220;object&#8221; is scored by Facebook which in turn gives you&#8221;edgerank&#8221;.</p>
<p>The minute you or your brand posts an &#8220;object&#8221; on Facebook your edge begins to be created.  Tagging, liking, commenting&#8230;these are all edge creators.</p>
<p>So lets drill a little deeper into the equation above.</p>
<p>There is a <a title="Wiki" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affinity" target="_blank">Wiki for Affinity. </a></p>
<p><strong>Affinity: </strong> is a word used in a variety of fields, usually to indicate some kind of preference, relationship or a potential or actual closeness between two entities.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not how many friends you have&#8230;it&#8217;s how many relationships you have with those friends or customers.</p>
<p>So the Affinity factor is based on the interaction you have with someone&#8217;s &#8220;objects&#8221;  on Facebook.</p>
<p>The second element is weight.  It&#8217;s all about &#8220;made you look&#8221;.  To Facebook eyeballs =  $$$.  I hate to tell you but it&#8217;s not about you&#8230;.it&#8217;s all bout Facebook.  The longer you view an &#8220;object&#8221;  the more &#8220;weight&#8221; Facebook gives to that &#8220;object&#8221;.   Comments are like gold for your edgerank because it takes more time to leave a comment than to click &#8220;like&#8221;.  And the longer you interact the more the Facebook fairy likes it.</p>
<p>And last but now least there is &#8220;time decay&#8221;.  In this ever changing, constantly updated world, yesterdays news just will not make the cut.  Keep it new and fresh.</p>
<p>This is just the &#8220;edge&#8221;  (no pun intended&#8230;well actually it was intended) of the info on &#8220;edgerank&#8221;.</p>

		<title>A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words</title>

<p>A picture is worth a thousand words.</p></blockquote>
<p>How very true!!   Whether the picture is something you see or something you visualize, a picture really stays in your head.</p>
<p>Lot’s of people post motivational sayings and things of that nature on Facebook but I have started posting beautiful pictures I have found.  I love the great quotes too, but I think I’m in my visual mode.</p>
<p>One of my favorite scriptures:</p>

<p>Let’s start with 10 things on our “Facebook To Do List”</p>
<p>The first three items are for all times.  The last seven are for the next 30 days.  By then it will be a habit.</p>
<p>Facebook to do list.</p>
<ol>

<li><span style="color: #3366ff;">Get a professional profile photo and keep it the same.  Our goal with our personal account is to build our friend list.  They need to become familiar with your profile picture. </span></li>
<li><span style="color: #3366ff;">Update your bio, make it interesting and a true reflection of who you are.  Don’t include business info in your bio.  Save that for your “business page.”</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #3366ff;">Say something interesting for your status update. Questions are often good.  (The next webinar will address this in detail).</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #3366ff;">Request a minimum of 10 new friends per day with targeted friend finder. (video coming soon)</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #3366ff;">Comment on five friends. Join a conversation.   Try to find long threads and add a comment to the conversation.</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #3366ff;">Comment on three pictures per day.</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #3366ff;">Click “like” on at least three items per day.</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #3366ff;">Find someone to stalk  (in a good way)  and watch their page daily.  Find someone with at least 2000 friend who comments frequently.</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #3366ff;">Check your notifications daily and be sure to respond to each of them.</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #3366ff;">Have fun and be nice. </span></li>

<p>Okay I know this video is graphic.  But I believe it is most likely the way it really was.  My Dad was there&#8230;the first wave at Omaha Beach.  But he never spoke of it.  He never saw this movie.  He didn&#8217;t often watch war moves.  They gave him nightmares.</p>
<p>This is Memorial Weekend.   To most it’s just an extra long weekend.  A time for picnics, families,  and one extra day to sleep late.  Which is GREAT!!</p>
<p>But it is really so much more. It’s a day to remember those that have sacrificed for our freedom.</p>
<p>As I said my Dad was in the first wave at Omaha Beach in Normandy.    He lived, but as you can see in the intense and vivid re enactment in &#8220;Saving Private Ryan&#8221; many did not.</p>
<p>When I was 16 and in high school I was required to read a book entitled “I Was There at the Normandy Invasion.”</p>
<p>My Dad saw the book on the kitchen table and said “I was there.”  My Dad was a big kidder and I said “you were not.”  And he said “yes&#8230;I was in the first wave at Omaha beach.”</p>
<p>That was the  first time Dad had ever mentioned the war to me.  He never talked of the war..ever,  until one day several years later when I was married and our son Brandon was six&#8230;out of the clear blue,  an old Army buddy looked Dad up and came to visit.  Dad had always assumed that his fox hole buddy Fahnestock, had been killed in a later battle, because he never heard from him after the war&#8230;until now.</p>
<p>I heard some amazing stories as they reminisced.  Stories I’m so glad I got to hear because my Dad died exactly one week later.</p>
<p>The Bible says &#8220;it is appointed unto man, once to die.&#8221;   The operative word here to me is “appointed.”   It’s as if my Dad’s appointment was June 6th.</p>
<p>June sixth was the day he hit the beach in Normandy..but he was spared.   Approximately twenty-five years later on June 6th Dad had a massive heart attach which could have ended his life.  But thank God he was spared.  Fast forward another 15 years, and on June 6th 1985 Dad was with my husband Flavius and my brother Danny on Interstate 65 returning from a fun filled guy day and Dad started having chest pains and trouble breathing.  They pulled the car over to the emergency lane because Dad thought it would help to get out of the car and walk around.  It didn’t!  It was pouring rain and they held an umbrella over Dad and began to pray&#8230;really hard.  The state police arrived and they called the EMS to pick him up and rush him to the hospital.  Dad did not die on June 6th.  He died just four days later on June 10th.</p>
<p>The real purpose of Memorial Day is to remember .  Remember the people that have sacrificed for our freedom.  Be proud, be thankful, and remember.</p>
<p>Find a Memorial service to attend.  <a title="Flag's For Vets" href="http://clarkcounty.wave3.com/news/community-spirit/flags-vets/53413" target="_blank">Flags for Vet&#8217;s</a> will have a service where the beams that stand in place of the Twin Towers in New York City will be here in Louisville,  today Saturday, May 28th.   And we are having a day of memorial at <a title="Little Flock Worship Center" href="http://www.littleflock.com/templates/System/details.asp?id=39756&amp;PID=474161" target="_blank">Little Flock Worship Center</a> tomorrow.  Please join us if you are in the Louisville area for this special service to remember those who have sacrificed.</p>
