FedEx Days

2010 April 25

Fed Ex Days.  I know it’s a crazy title.  You have to watch the video to get it.

It seems like this is the busiest year of my life and I could not squeeze in one more thing.  And yet I thought that last year and the year before that…and the year before that.  All the way back to when Brandon started playing sports with the game schedule, the practice schedule, after school programs, homework, my work, Flavius’ work, church, doctors appointments, vacations, weddings, baby showers, and the list goes on.  Every years seems busier that the last. And I love it!!!

Although it is sometimes exhausting I still prefer it this way.  I love being busy.  I don’t ever say “I’ll be so glad to retire” because I love what I do.  I don’t know who said it but some smart person said

if you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life

I get up excited to get busy and have to make myself head up the stairs to bed every night because it seems I never get done.

I spend my days, every day, doing things that I love, and that is such a blessing.  If this is not the way you are living then it’s time for a change.  What is the reward for what you are doing today?  Is it a pay check?  I know you have to pay the bills.  If you don’t go to work what will happen?  What will you do? What will you eat?  Where will you live?  Now don’t jump to conclusions here.  I am not suggesting that you quit your job.  I am merely suggesting that you evaluate your life and your job and move in the direction of doing things because you enjoy it and because it matters. Find a way to do what you love.  We spend so much of our lives working and to be in a job that we hate is unthinkable.

Change may not be easy.  It is often a leap of faith. It will take a plan and determination.  And it will take time. (Bills remember?)   Your current job pays the bills but if nothing changes then nothing changes.

What do we really want to do?  What motivates you?

The video I have included this week is pretty long but gives us a lot to think about.

As it describes we really all want three basic things.

Autonomy – The urge to direct our own lives

Mastery – The desire to get better and better at something.

Purpose – the yearning to do what we do in a service of something larger than ourselves.

Live life to the fullest.   Find your place, do what you love and do what you do to the best of your ability.  And the reward will be abundant.
