I have been the entrepreneur type all of my life. When I got my first “Easy Bake Oven” it was not enough to make cupcakes for the family. I had to make them, and sell them to the neighborhood kids.
I have owned and operated several businesses since that time, which have required large initial investments, and complicated and expensive operational overhead. Some were successful and some were not.
My husband and I ran two businesses consecutively and owned rental property on the side. We were working hard but really not getting ahead. I spent more than 20 years working in the Travel industry. I owned travel agencies in Louisville, Kentucky and surrounding areas, and was pleased with my success until something came along that caused a dramatic market shift. That something was the Internet. Very quickly things began to change. I soon realized that the masses no longer needed a “travel agent”. I made an effort to “reinvent” myself and my travel business. I spent large sums of money on Internet marketing and ads. I started working with large group travel because it was harder for groups to book online. But I quickly realized that there was no way to compete with the HUGE Internet travel companies. I started looking for yet another business.
I had a friend who had some success with a large fast food franchise, so I looked there first. The investment requirements compared to the potential “return on investment” did not excite me. I knew there had to be a better way.
Working for someone else is not going to create financial security for you and your family. The tax system in this country is set up for you to be encouraged to become a business owner. If you are just an employee you are making someone else rich. You must take advantage of the Internet and learn how to run a successful business if you are going to thrive.
I am tired of all the junk out there: scams, money games, businesses with little or no potential and all of the empty promises. If you are looking for a get rich quick scheme, well, this is not for you. As with all things in life the smarter you work the more you make.
