2010 Super Bowl Commercials

2010 February 7
by candimay

I hope everyone enjoyed the Super Bowl.   It’s a fact that the  Super Bowl is as much about the advertising as the on-field action.  According to Yahoo Sports, of the estimated 100 million people who will view this year’s game, a significant number can’t identify anyone outside of Peyton Manning.

Okay a big confession here.  I would not recognize Peyton Manning.   Jay Lenos said in one of his Tonight show  monologues “You’re not famous until my mother has heard of you”.  I guess it’s all relative.  My mother if she were still alive may well have recognized Peyton Manning because she loved to watch sports.

Once on a flight for a winter get away to Florida I was sitting next to Len Dawson….but I didn’t know it was Len Dawson.  For some reason everyone kept sending him drinks and stopping to shake his hand.  I didn’t think much of it but I did noticed that he had on a really nice ring.  Flay was napping through all  of this and when we woke up I whispered “look at the cool ring this guy is wearing”.  He said “that’s a Super Bowl ring and that is Len Dawson”.

Most everyone on the plane would have loved my seat.  I had a golden opportunity but I didn’t recognize it.   Opportunity might be sitting right next to you but if you don’t recognize it you will miss it.  Short and sweet but true.

Organization and Planning

Planning and Organizing

So many of the disciplines I touched on last week really overlap. Spiritual enrichment and counting your blessings go hand in hand. Plus helping others can’t help but enrich us and put us on the path to becoming what God wants us to be. A servant mentality if you will. When you combine goal setting, prioritizing things and planning and organizing you have a road map for your life that allows you to spend quality time with family and enjoy fun and recreation.

It’s hard work structuring your day so that you can fit in all that you want and need to do. The saying

”an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”

is so true. Preparing yourself and the surrounding area helps tremendously. I have listed a few things below that help me with the basic, which leaves more time for the crucial.

1. Organize your space. My office is my car and the left side of the sofa. I try to have everything that I need at my fingertips. It means preparing the area but it saves a ton of time down the road. I have pens, paper, stapler, readers, calculator etc right there on the little table beside the sofa. Otherwise I am constantly jumping up and looking for something. The car is the same way. Everything I need at my fingertips.

2. Get prepared the night before: Before you head to bed each night look at tomorrows schedule and plan the entire day. What time you will walk out the door, what materials will you need. Put them all together in the same place everyday so you don’t run around at the last minute gathering up what you need.

3. Have a place for everything and everything in it’s place. We all spend too much time looking for things. If you have a place for your keys, a place for your cell phone and put them there every time you walk in the house you will not waste time searching for them. This also means putting things back where they belong. I have baskets everywhere for everything. I’m a real basket case LOL. A basket for vitamins. Just grab the basket. I have a basket for the mail. Opened or unopened the mail goes in the basket. Baskets and bins are life savers.

4. Make a “to do” list. This gives you direction plus it is great fun scratching things off the list once completed. In the evening when you are planning the next day use today’s list to start tomorrow’s. Sometimes there are things on my list that seem to be transferred everyday until I finally decide they are unnecessary.

5. Limit things that occupy too much time. Give yourself only 20 minutes on Facebook or 1 hour only of TV.

6. Multi task. The car should either be a rolling university or a good time to return phone calls. (no texting and driving.) I have a list of calls to return and a stack of CD’s just in case I get through all the calls or get stuck in traffic. I frequently have several hours of driving per day and every minute is filled. I sing in the choir at church and I always have a practice tape to sing along with on a long drive…or a Dale Calvert CD to educate me on recruiting.

7. Last but not least have a filing system. Invest in the necessary items to have things filed. Stacks of important things are bad…very bad. Things will get lost. Things that make you stress out. This ounce of prevention is definitely worth the pound of cure. When the mail comes in either pay it, trash it or file it. Don’t be caught opening the same letter over and over and trying to decide what to do with it. Touch the mail once.

These are just a few of the things that help me stay organized. If even one of these help then you have improved your time management. And you may have heard…

time is valuable spend it wisely.

Triage – Important Stuff First

2010 January 19
by candimay

In my list of disciplines I called this triage.  Triage is actually  prioritizing the patient with the greatest need based on the severity of their condition.   For us in my list of disciplines it means concentrating on the activities each days with the highest priority or value.  You may have heard the expression

“don’t sweat the small stuff”.

We can spend way too much time worrying about things that are really insignificant in the whole scheme of your day.  Not just worrying but doing things that are not that important that could be eliminated or outsourced.

Your ability to work on the most important tasks will greatly improve how much you accomplish each day, each week, each year and leave more time for you to spend doing the things that are truly important in your life.   This is a big challenge for me because I like to try so many things, but sometimes I spend too much time doing things that I don’t really enjoy doing that much,  and are not really being a big benefit to me.  So why don’t I just stop doing those things.  I can’t seem to stop.  JUST SAY NO!!!

There are only 24 hours in a day.  You have to make time for the important stuff.  You have to choose to do THIS instead of  THAT.   I choose to blog instead of watch TV.  Just for the heck of it total up the amount of time you spend watching TV.  One hour in the morning watching the news, turn the TV on at 6pm and turn it off at 10pm when you head to bed.  Okay that’s five hours.  How much could you get done if  you had an extra five hours each day.   See how much time you spend each day on Facebook.  Could that time be put to better use. Okay I’m stepping on toes….my toes.   Time is precious.  Use it wisely.

So this triage thing will require some thought and for me this includes making a list.  Again lots of these diciplines overlap because this is also a part of  the Planning and Organizing thing which I will touch on tomorrow.

Spiritual Enrichment and An Attitude of Gratitude

2010 January 18
by candimay

Well as I said in my last post “the list was in no particular order”, but for me number 10 is actually number one. I have posted the YouTube video of Art Williams because it is good and because about 4 1/2 minute into the video he talks about the fact that God must come first, family second and business third. This is the policy to live by. For me this starts by combining number 1. Counting your blessings with number 10. Spiritual enrichment. I try to always start the day with an attitude of gratitude. Just laying there for a few minutes after the alarm goes off and thanking God for another day and for all the blessing in your life will get you day off to the right start.   Actually one of the things I am thankful for is that I don’t usually get up to an alarm.

My mom instilled this “be thankful” thing in me a long time ago. I had a lousy complexion growing up and mom  would not let me complain. When I tried to moan about it she would say “be thankful you have legs” It almost became a family joke but she was right. When counting our blessings we sometimes forget the obvious. That’s why I have included the other You Tube Video. It’s kind of funny but it really hits home.

For me spiritual enrichment means going to church regularly.  Lot’s of folks now days don’t think this is that important.  For me it is.  And then there is using my talents.  Mom again always read me the story of the talents in the Bible and told me if you don’t use your talent God might take it and give it to someone else.  It gives a whole new meaning to “use it or lose it” .    And then of course there is feeding your mind with the right stuff.   Reading the Bible and having daily devotion.  I happen to love Joel Osteen.  I subscribe to his daily inspiration and you can too.    You’ve heard the saying “garbage in…garbage out”.   We really must feed our mind with good stuff but also avoid the garbage.  That is sometimes harder to do.  None of this is rocket science it’s just a matter of making the commmitment to do these things daily.

A Goal Without A Plan Is Only A Dream

A Goal Without A Plan is Only a Dream!

Zig Ziglar Setting Goals
We’ve all heard

”failing to plan is planning to fail”

Are you skinny, healthy, happy and rich?  If you are all of the above then you can quit reading.  If not then its time for a plan.  January is over half over and I have not started exercising and honestly have not even written down my goals for this year.  Shame on me. The year started off with a bang and has been at high speed ever since, but you know what? Every year is like that and that is no excuse.  There are several things, disciplines if you will, that will help us reach new heights.
I have listed some here in no particular order.  I will be going into some detail about each of these in my blog next week.

1.  Counting your Blessings.
2.  Goal Setting.
3.  Planning and organizing…I love this one!!
4.  Proper nutrition and exercise…I hate this one!  I love to eat junk and I really don’t like exercise anymore.
5.  Helping others.
6.  Triage – decide and prioritize the important stuff.
7.  Learning and Growing.
8.  Fun…you gotta have fun.
9.  Spending quality time with special people.
10. Spiritual enrichment.

You probably hate and love different ones than I do.  I know a few people who love to exercise and some who hate planning and organizing (go figure).   But to improve in all these areas will make 2010 a stellar year for you and me.  And that’s what we want.  We want life to be good in every way.  It won’t happen by chance.  The skinny fairy has left the building LOL.  It’s up to me.  Happier, Healthier, Richer, Skinnier, Smarter, More loved, Better Christian, Better wife, Better friend….you get the picture.  I would love your feedback.  Read my blog next week and let me know your thoughts.

WooHoo!  I am a published author.  (Okay not like my niece Bethany Griffin ,who we are so very proud of, who is now writing the screen play for her book,)  But still I am listed as and “Expert Author”  with Ezine Articles.  Check out my articles so far at Ezinearticles.com .

I saw a book while Christmas shopping entitled “Everything Men Know About Women”  and all the pages were blank.  Hahahaha!  Well my next article should be “How to become and Expert Author with EzineArticles“  (the number one article publisher on the Internet) and all it says is “JUST DO IT”.    Everyone of you can do this.   Just do it!!!  I’m not trying to be a nag but I  just know if you give it a shot you will be surprised at how easy this is to do.  Just do it!   Okay I know this  quote belongs to Nike  but it is what fits here and I know you get my point  and anyway they took it from Art Williams.  So here is another great quote from Art Williams.

Do it then talk about it.
